*NEWS* BURST WATER MAIN AFFECTING SUPPLIES IN COATBRIDGE AND BAILLIESTON AREA OF GLASGOW
*Update to the below news*
Scottish Water has started restoring supplies to the vast majority of customers in parts of Coatbridge and the Baillieston area of north east Glasgow who were affected by a burst water main this morning.
The burst occurred on a 12 inch water main in a car park near Espieside Crescent, Coatbridge and caused a loss of normal water supply, low pressure water or discoloured water to properties in the west of Coatbridge and the Baillieston, Blairhill, Bargeddie and Kirkwood areas,
However, it is now in the process of restoring normal water supplies to almost all of the estimated 16,000 affected properties.
Scottish Water is still working on repairing the burst, which is complex, but has re-zoned its local network and tankered water in to enable it to start the restoration of normal supplies as quickly as possible.
When individual properties have their water restored will depend on their location on the network, so some will have it restored earlier than others.
When normal supplies are restored it is possible that the water could be discoloured. If this is the case, affected customers should run the cold water tap in their kitchen gently until the water runs clear.
Scottish Water is working to restore normal supplies as soon as possible to any remaining customers still affected.
To help minimise inconvenience to customers whose normal supplies have not been restored yet, it has set up distribution points for bottled water at:
- Showcase Cinema at Barbridge Leisure Centre G69 7TZ
- A branch of Morrisons supermarket in Main Street, Bailieston G69 9AH
- Birkenshaw industrial estate G71 5PR
- Time Capsule water park in Coatbridge ML5 1DL
There are two incident caravans on-site in the affected areas where teams of staff will be based to help customers and provide information.
