Keeping on top of your water supply in lockdown

We wanted to give you a few pointers of the risks to your water supply during this wintery lockdown, and how you can help out your future self (and your business)!

Risks to your water supply

There are a few different risks to your water supply at your business at the moment. Here are the main ones:

  • Cold temperatures at the moment mean water pipes are more likely to freeze, expand, and burst

  • Many properties are empty and so leaks caused by frozen or burst pipes may go undetected for longer (meaning more water wasted, and higher bills, ouch!)

  • If your property is not being used, the water is likely to be stagnant, and so could be breeding harmful bacteria

Keep on top of your water supply

But don’t despair. Here are four tips, with step-by-step guides, to help you to keep on top of your water supply.

  1. If you haven’t insulated your pipes, it’s not too late. You can find a handy blog about how to insulate your pipes here.

  2. Check your pipes regularly, and do a simple leak test to check for any leaks on your supply

  3. Take a meter read whilst you’re at it and send it over to us here. One lucky meter-reading-submitter a month will win £100. If you’re not sure how to read your meter, we made a video to help you out.

  4. If you’re in a position where you are able to reopen (fingers crossed soon!) make sure you flush through your supply to ensure the water is safe. You can find more info of how to do that in this document.
